Vandals cause $84k in damage at Coplicks Tallebudgera Golf Club
A GANG of hoons have totalled over a dozen golf buggies at a Tallebudgera golf course Monday night causing more than $84,000 in damages.
Members of Coplicks Tallebudgera Golf Course arrived in the morning to find the club’s putting greens destroyed and 13 damaged golf buggies scattered around the grounds.
The golf buggies had been smashed into one another while bushes had been flattened in the late night ‘Jackass’ style escapade.
It is believed it was the same group that had been filmed breaking into the grounds on Saturday evening.
Manager George Coplick said the vandalism will have huge ramifications for the club.
“All of our carts are written off now, we know at least four of them will just have to be trashed,” he said.
“They had cut all the chains off the wire fence, hot-wired the buggies and proceeded to go for burn outs on the golf greens.
“It is $84,000 worth of damage to the buggies alone.
“There are skid marks where they have run into each other, every single one is undriveable.
The club, which has been in operating for over two decades, has never experienced such damage.
“We are going to lose a lot of money in the next few weeks,” Mr Coplick said.
“Most of our members are 60 plus and rely on these buggies to get around.”
The manager said he was heartbroken to see years of work ruined overnight.
“You look down the fairway and every single flag has been run over, all of our shaped bushes have been damaged,” Mr Coplick said.
“We have three full time grounds keepers who work seven days a week to keep this green up to standard, now all the greens have skid marks through them,” he said
“We fix our edges constantly, it is going to take at least six months to fix.”
Mr Coplick said he does not believe the perpetrators are local.
“Tallebudgera is a quiet community, we have been part of the Gold Coast for four generations — this is just devastating.”
Police say they are investigating the reports of wilful damage.
