Video: AGIC film to promote golf’s mental health benefits

POSTED ON September 5, 2020 @ 9:54 am

In a bid to showcase golf’s many benefits for the body and mind, the Australian Golf Industry Council (AGIC) has released a three-hour long TV production.

Tee Your Mind

Titled Tee Your Mind, this feature is a golf mindfulness experience presenting some of Australia’s most breathtaking courses into an 18-hole experience. The journey follows players at Collaroy’s Long Reef Golf Club and St Michael’s Golf Club in Little Bay.

The film is created to convey the calming and meditative sensations of the game and it’s nature experiences such as the trees bending by the coastal breeze and native birds singing.

Remarkably, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about a resurgence in the game due to its ability to maintain a safe, socially distant environment for all players involved. Something many other sports are unable to accommodate for.

Golf in digital format

To leverage of the new interest in the sport, the AGIC has created Tee Your Mind to mimic the true golf experience in a digital format. The film aims to further engage people by highlighting not only the physical benefits, but the benefits for people’s mental health as well.

Tee your mind“Golf has been an antidote to an incredibly stressful year brought on by the once-in-a-generation challenges of COVID-19,” said Gavin Kirkman, AGIC Chairman and PGA of Australia chief executive.

“Our game is one of the best whole body and mind experiences and many have used golf as a valuable mental health outlet during this difficult period.”

Golf Australia Chairman Andrew Newbold said golf is a powerful respite to help people overcome their anxieties.

“The benefits of golf are diverse and extend beyond the physicalities of the sport,” Newbold said.

“During COVID-19 we have seen more  Australians turn to golf and we think our sport, with its unique blend of open space and nature, can offer a solution for people exploring new ways to take a break from the day-to-day.”
