Cronulla Golf Club development project approved
Cronulla Golf Club has received approval for a development project, which includes alterations and additions to the existing clubhouse and construction of a two-story building for storage and as a members’ facility.
The Land and Environment Court upheld an appeal by the club against the deemed refusal of the development application (DA) by Sutherland Shire Council, subject to conditions.
Agreement on several matters was reached by the parties in a conciliation conference.
Seventeen submissions opposing the DA were received, and the court heard oral submissions from five objectors on issues including view loss from residential apartments to the open space and landscaped areas, traffic, parking and safety, and privacy, noise and lighting impacts.
Club president Bob Richardson advised members the critical works approved included:
- Refurbishment of the Women’s and Men’s Locker rooms.
- Much needed clubhouse refurbishments, including dramatic improvements to our pro shop area and immediate surrounds.
- A significant increase to members’ personal golf club storage facilities.
- A significant increase in the size and functionality of our northern & western outdoor balconies, including an increase in necessary wet weather covering for golfers, and an improved traffic flow when entering and exiting the golf course.
- Some modification of our golf course/car park member entry points.
- A new building, containing two floors, which provides for a very significant increase and purpose-built golf bag & buggy and golf cart storage.
- A multipurpose, clubhouse linked, upstairs members’ room.
“It is expected that this work will form part of a medium to longer-term strategy, to bring our clubhouse and member service provision to a standard expected by private golf club members,” he said.
