Greenspace Management to open Freeway Golf Course after course renovation

POSTED ON February 14, 2023 @ 9:19 am

Melbourne is the golfing capital of the nation with golfers of all levels are spoilt for choice within Metropolitan Melbourne; over the past two years, the City of Boroondara has been working on something really special at Freeway Golf Course.

The facility was closed for play to undertake a significant renovation of playing surfaces and course re-design under the guidance of Pacific Coast Golf Design which has designed courses globally for decades to much acclaim.

After an extensive renovation program to replace all playing surfaces from Tee to Green with Santa Ana turf and exceptional Bent Grass greens, the course is scheduled to open to the community once again from 2 March 2023 in partnership with GreenSpace Management.

GreenSpace Management was formed on the basis to provide market-leading, innovative solutions that are benchmarked globally and community-focused. GreenSpace is ‘Made for Golf, by experts in Golf’ and has partnered with the City of Boroondara at Freeway Golf Course to deliver an outstanding golfing experience, as well as a raft of non-golf community-focused programs and activations.

“We are delighted to partner with the City of Boroondara at Freeway Golf Course. Together, we will continue to grow the game of golf welcoming all from our community through a range of golf-specific programs, as well as fun, entertaining, and family-focused community activations for non-golfers.” Peter Vlahandreas, Managing Director, GreenSpace Management.

“Council is proud to deliver a high-quality golf course for the community. The revamped 18-hole championship course offers the best playing surfaces in the heart of the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, set upon beautiful parklands,” said  Cr Felicity Sinfield, Mayor of Boroondara.

Bellevue Ward councilor Cr Jim Parke added, “We’ve found a way to make the course more environmentally friendly. 5,000 native plants and 104 native trees have been planted during these revitalisation works; while 22 tonnes of recycled rubber tyres were used in new cart paths”.

Freeway Golf Course is a public access golf course and welcomes all. Tee times will open for reservations to the public in late February 2023.
