Hurstville Golf Clubhouse and Course officially opens

POSTED ON June 23, 2023 @ 11:21 am

Georges River Mayor Nick Katris official opened the new Hurstville Golf Clubhouse and Course in Peakhurst on Friday 16 June.

Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, was a strong advocate in obtaining the $2.2 million that allowed for the construction of the new clubhouse. As well as State Government funds, $400,000 was provided by the Hurstville Golf Club to assist the changes.

For over 50 years, the course was serviced by a small pro shop and limited facilities, but following funding, the clubhouse was modernised with a brand-new function room, a balcony with wonderful views of the course, a pro shop, changing rooms, amenities, meeting room, office and space for storing and charging golf carts.

Mayor Nick Katris acknowledged and thanked all those involved from Project Co-ordination, Weidlich Golf Design, Flemming Contracting and Council staff who made the reconstruction go as smoothly as possible.

The opening event was also a fundraiser to support St George Sutherland Medical Research Foundation.

“It is wonderful to have this major facility in the Georges River area, I know the Golf Club members are really enjoying it and the team are finding it a lot easier to service members and visitors.

“I thank the community for their patience during construction and the members who waited for this upgrade.”

Long-term sponsor and supporter attendees were also invited for their support for Council’s charity days. The most prominent charity event, the Mayoral Golf Day, raises funds for medical research that started 20 years ago by Kevin Greene AM. Mr Greene was recently appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Golf has been played at the Hurstville Golf Course since the 1960s when it opened as a nine-hole facility. The course was first extended to fifteen holes in the 1970s when the waste dump closed and then by 1987 it became a full eighteen holes.

A brand new Proshop that is completed with polished concrete floors and high ceilings. The Proshop also features a staffed café and bar with a range of delicious snacks and cool beverages available for purchase.

Two-Level Clubhouse:

A new two level Clubhouse featuring an operational lift.

Level One – The base level comprises modern change rooms with three toilets (including one ambulant), a shower and twelve lockers in both the mens and womens. These facilities also include a unisex disabled toilet.

Level Two – The upper level features a large modern function room (approximately 150 square metres) complemented with picturesque views of the golf course. The function room features an adjoining balcony (approximately 40 square metres), which can be opened up through glass concertina doors to create an indoor outdoor feel. The upper level also features a kitchenette to assist with catering events of all sizes.

Accessible by both stairs and lift.

Additionally, the upper level also has a 20 square metres storage room.

New Cart Shed:

A new Cart Shed that houses up to approximately 40 golf carts. Currently there are only 25 carts available. With the potential to install an indoor golf simulator practice area for fittings and private lessons.
