JOB: Director of Golf – Eastern Golf Club
The Eastern Golf Club seeks applications for the outstanding position of Director of Golf.
The Club
Eastern Golf Club is a private club with 27 championship standard holes plus a Par-3 course located in Yering, Yarra Valley, Victoria. Course architect, Greg Norman’s philosophy was to create an environment in harmony with the broader landscape. The results delivered a highly playable, member-friendly design capturing the surrounding Christmas Hills and Dividing Ranges to enrich the playing experience.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Golf will be responsible for day-to-day golf operations activity and is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Club’s golf calendar, competition management, retail offering, and teaching activities. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, the ability to lead a team to create future leaders and be passionate about delivering quality experiences to members and guests.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing all aspects of the retail shop including stock provision, merchandising and inventory management;
- Financial management of golf operations including budgeting, forecasting, and purchasing plans;
- Ensure the club’s teaching offering is contemporary and relevant.
- Ensure the department and general work environment meet H&S requirements;
- Regular reporting to Club management and attending Committee meetings as required;
- Managing a golf operations team to meet the requirements of the Club including staff recruitment and retention programs, performance management, training and education and the development of a strong service culture;
- Managing all facets of golf operations including the development of the Club’s golfing calendar, delivery of member competitions and casual play, social and corporate bookings;
- Managing all facets of the practice facility and golf cart fleet;
- Working with the Course Superintendent and his team to ensure course set-up requirements are achieved; and
- Working with the General Manager to deliver the Club’s strategic objectives relating to competition provision, member engagement, service orientation and financial targets.
To be successful in this role you must possess:
- Prior experience in a similar golf management or golf retail leadership role;
- Previous experience working with MiClub golf software and competition management software;
- Previous experience in a members-based organisation;
- Demonstrated ability to work positively and collaboratively with employees, Committees, members and guests;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;A friendly and approachable manner;
- Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and competition operations;
- Maintain and promote a positive image within the golfing community; and
Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep abreast of marketing and business trends.
