JOB: General Manager – Eastlake Golf Club

POSTED ON April 10, 2023 @ 9:32 am

About Eastlake Golf Club:

Established in 1932, Eastlake Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course with a current membership of approximately 850. Located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney it is a “public access” golf course that caters to approximately 60,000 rounds per annum. The Course, leased from Sydney Water, runs through the Botany Wetlands area. Under the lease, the Club is responsible for implementing an Environmental Management Plan to ensure the protection of this important environmental area.

The Club has reviewed its strategic direction to include a strong focus on “business development.” In a very competitive market, the Club must substantially grow “non-golfing” revenue by leveraging off its very good golfing product, the recent renovation of the clubhouse, and attractive location, 20 minutes from Sydney’s CBD. This will require an enthusiastic and innovative manager with sound financial, marketing, and general management skills who is focused on the bottom line.

About the role:

Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for the execution of the Club’s strategic plan and objectives, stakeholder management, as well as the successful delivery of the Club’s day-to-day operations in accordance with service expectations and the annual budget.

You will lead a team of 15 staff as well as oversee the contracted golf professional shop.

You must have the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a small team. You should demonstrate a broad understanding of all aspects of the golf course and hospitality management including golf operations, food and beverage services, membership, and waitlist management. It is critical that you have a strong understanding of business administration, with a commercial and financial background.

The successful candidate must enjoy an easy rapport with members, visitors, and staff and be committed to providing outstanding and consistent communication that is prompt, relevant, and on brand.

You will need:

  • A high level of commercial acumen, integrity, and professionalism
  • Appropriate qualifications in a business or golf club management discipline or proven practical experience.
  • Management experience member golf or hospitality club environment
  • An understanding of core golf club and hospitality operations
  • Sound ability to understand and interpret the club’s financials.
  • Experience with the usual suite of Microsoft programs, MiClub, Xero and SwiftPOS
  • Neat, tidy, and professional personal presentation
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to lead a team and to liaise and work alongside the Club’s Board of Directors
  • Experience developing policies, procedures, and training staff.
  • Equipment, stakeholder, and asset management experience
  • Liquor Licencing experience
  • Contractor management experience
  • To be available to work a flexible roster including some weekend work.
  • A strong operational background

If you possess the relevant skills and experience and have the tenacity to cope with the daily demands of running a hospitality-based club, please submit your application including covering letter outlining how you meet the role requirements by clicking APPLY through the application process. Interviews will commence in late April 2023.

An appropriate market-related remuneration package will be offered to the preferred candidate.
