JOB: General Manager – Eastlake Golf Club

POSTED ON March 8, 2025 @ 3:08 pm

About Eastlake Golf Club:

Established in 1932, Eastlake Golf Club is one of Sydney’s premier public-access golf courses, located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, with approximately 950 active members. This public access course sees around 60,000 rounds of golf per year and is situated in the picturesque Botany Wetlands area. The Club leases the course from Sydney Water and is committed to environmental stewardship, implementing an Environmental Management Plan to protect this sensitive ecological area.

The Club is at a pivotal point in its evolution, focusing on growing its non-golfing revenue streams and further enhancing its business development strategy. With the recent renovation of its clubhouse and a prime location just 20 minutes from Sydney’s CBD, Eastlake Golf Club has seen significant improvement in recent years. The Club is on the brink of receiving development approval for the renovation of five holes and has recently developed a Clubhouse Master Plan, both of which will require significant coordination and attention.

About the Role:

The General Manager (GM) plays a critical leadership role, overseeing the successful delivery of the Club’s day-to-day operations and executing its strategic objectives. You will work closely with the Board to ensure alignment with the Club’s goals and will finalise development of the strategic plan for the next five years. A key priority will be managing the renovation of five holes, requiring careful coordination and collaboration with stakeholders.

As GM, you will lead a dynamic team of 20 staff members and oversee the contracted golf professional shop and halfway house. You will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence across all facets of the Club, including golf operations, food and beverage services, membership management, and financial performance. With a strong focus on business development, you will strive to leverage the Club’s assets and attractive location to drive revenue growth and enhance member satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Club’s day-to-day operations, ensuring they meet or exceed service expectations and are aligned with the annual budget.
  • Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement the Club’s strategic plan, with a focus on the successful execution of the course renovation, Clubhouse Master Plan and Wentworth Avenue bridge negotiations.
  • Oversee the management and development of a 20-member team and the contracted golf professional shop.
  • Ensure the smooth running of golf course operations, food and beverage services, membership services, and waitlist management.
  • Maintain strong relationships with members, visitors, and staff, ensuring communication is clear, consistent, and on-brand.
  • Manage financials, including budgets, forecasts, and performance reporting, ensuring the Club operates within its financial parameters.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure smooth and efficient operations across all departments.
  • Ensure compliance with liquor licensing regulations and manage contractor relationships effectively.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven commercial acumen and financial management skills.
  • Relevant qualifications in business or golf club management, or substantial practical experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience managing a golf or hospitality club environment, with a thorough understanding of golf course and hospitality operations.
  • Strong ability to interpret and manage the Club’s financials.
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office, MiClub, Xero, and SwiftPOS.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the Board of Directors.
  • Experience in policy development, staff training, and contractor management.
  • Liquor licensing experience.
  • Ability to manage a flexible work roster, including weekends.

Remuneration and Application Process:

The successful candidate will receive a competitive, market-related remuneration package commensurate with experience. If you are an innovative and driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, hospitality-based club environment, we encourage you to apply. Please submit your application, including a cover letter outlining how you meet the role requirements, by clicking APPLY.

Interviews will commence in April 2025.

We look forward to hearing from you.
