JOB: General Manager – Royal Perth Golf Club

Royal Perth Golf Club (the Club) is one of Australia’s premium private golf clubs located only 5 minutes from the Perth CBD and situated adjacent to the Swan River in South Perth.
Established in 1895, the Club is the oldest golf club in Perth and has a well maintained 18 hole golf course, practice facilities, modern plant and equipment and a large Clubhouse with multiple function rooms.
The Club is seeking to appoint an experienced General Manager to administer its operations which include, the golf course, a busy calendar of golf competitions, a membership base of over 1,600 and a first-class food and beverage operation.
The General Manager will be responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of all aspects of the Club and its associated facilities. The Club has a $6m annual operating budget, employs 40 staff and is recording 60,000 rounds of golf per annum.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in managing the day-to-day operations of a club environment (or similar), financial management strategic planning and exceptional leadership abilities. The General Manager will work closely with the Club’s management team and General Committee to deliver strategic initiatives.
Other requirements include a strong financial acumen and an understanding of:
- Golf Club Operations;
- Club licensing requirements;
- Food and beverage management;
- Business administration and commercial business growth;
- Risk management; and
- Human Resources management.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and management skills.
The key responsibilities of this role are to:
- manage all operational activities of the club in accordance with the strategic framework as determined by the General Committee;
- ensure the strategic goals and objectives of the club are defined, implemented and achieved;
- monitor and manage compliance with corporate governance;
- provide leadership, supervision, guidance and advice to the management team, comprising of Manager House, Manager Course and Manager Golf and Memberships;
- manage the effective coordination of the food & beverage, course and golf departments, in conjunction with the respective managers;
- be responsible for the co-ordination of the club professional’s duties and responsibilities and liaise with contract negotiations;
- be responsible for the financial management of the club, including timely and accurate monthly and annual financial reporting in accordance with relevant accounting standards and legislation;
- develop annual budgets for approval by General Committee in consultation with the Honorary Treasurer and be accountable to these budgets throughout the year;
- maintain the clubs Risk Management Framework ensuring all risks are identified, mitigated with appropriate control/management measures and assessed and reported to General Committee at least annually;
- co-ordinate and manage the club’s human resources, employee relations and industrial relations requirements, including compliance with relevant acts and legislations;
- co-ordinate and manage the club’s occupational safety and health requirements, including compliance with relevant acts and legislation;
- develop and foster excellent relationships with members, club officials and external parties;
- maintain the relationship with the City of South Perth by regularly communicating/meeting with the relevant stakeholders keeping them abreast of relevant matters from time to time;
Qualifications
Candidates will hold a degree in business management or other relevant qualification(s) and a minimum of 5 years experience in a senior management role. Demonstrable experience in golf administration and club operations will be highly regarded.
This is a salaried position that will require regular weekend work. Excellent working conditions are offered, and a competitive remuneration package will be negotiated.
