Federal Golf Club, located in the heart of the Australian capital, presents one of Australia’s best inland golfing experiences. Secluded in beautiful bushland with picturesque views of the Brindabella Ranges, Federal has consistently featured in the Golf Digest Top 100 Australian Courses, currently ranking 48th in Golf Australia’s best public access courses.

The 18-hole championship course, located on the western side of Red Hill just two kilometres from the Parliamentary Triangle, features pristine Santa Ana couch fairways and quality bent grass greens which are protected by well-placed bunkers. With off-course facilities that include an award-winning function centre, restaurant, and bar, Federal is considered Canberra’s best kept secret as an events destination.

The Club is seeking to appoint a Golf Operations Manager to lead our golf retail and service department and work with the wider management team to create the ultimate golfing and social experience for our members and guests. The successful applicant will manage a golf operations team to meet the requirements of the department including staff recruitment, performance management, rostering, identification of training needs and development of a strong service culture.

The Role

Reporting to the Head Golf Professional, the Golf Operations Manager is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Club’s day-to-day golf operations, including competition management, staff supervision and golf retail sector. This position requires an individual who is capable of leading and motivating a small team. A strong background in golf retail sales, customer service and experience in a member environment is highly desirable. A permanent part-time position is on offer with 35 rostered shop hours per week, along with coaching opportunities available for a driven career PGA Professional.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to undertake the following:

  • In collaboration with the Head Golf Professional and Retail Manager, assist in all aspects of the retail operation including maintaining supplier relationships, product knowledge, managing stock levels, shop merchandising and sales targets
  • Actively participate in regular staff meetings focused on customer service, operations, revenue growth, cost containment and continuous improvement
  • Assist in managing all facets of golf course operations including bookings, competition days, corporate days, social golf and driving range operations
  • Assist in managing members motorised cart storage, club storage and pull cart storage facilities
  • Assist in managing the operation of the golf cart fleet, hire equipment and practice facilities
  • Assist in managing customer orders and ensuring equipment repairs are completed in a timely manner
  • Assist in compiling financial and round data reporting
  • Marshal and start the fields as required to ensure pace of play is adhered to
  • Ensure all transactions are processed according to policy
  • Ensure the premises is securely locked each evening
  • Liaise with other departments as required to coordinate functions and events
  • Provide exceptional customer service in all interactions be they face to face, via telephone or email
  • Communicate and work effectively with other staff, members and guests
  • Comply with WHS regulations and reporting to uphold a safe workplace
  • Any other duties as directed by management from time to time

This is a fantastic opportunity for an organised, hands-on person who possesses the ability to work collaboratively in a team, while ensuring the management of efficient operational standards on a daily basis.

To be considered for this position you will:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the golf industry
  • Preferably be a PGA-accredited professional and/or have experience in a similar golf management or golf retail leadership role
  • Have strong knowledge of all aspects of golf operations including competition golf management and administration
  • Have a working knowledge of Golf and Club operating systems, POS and Rules of Golf – experience with MiClub and GolfGenius an advantage
  • Hold a current RSA certification and First Aid Certificate
  • Have a positive attitude, strong work ethic and an outgoing personality with a sense of humour
  • Be available to work varied shifts from early mornings to afternoons, including weekends and Public Holidays
  • Demonstrate a passion for leading and mentoring staff
