JOB: Golf Operations Manager – Royal Canberra Golf Club
The Company
The Royal Canberra Golf Club is one of Australia’s premier private clubs located in the beautiful Westbourne Woods. The Club’s golf facilities include 27 holes, a 240m driving range, a short iron range, two chipping greens and two putting greens. Our team of over 70 staff are highly professional, positive, service orientated and motivated.
The Royal Canberra Golf Club is looking to recruit a Golf Operations Manager to assist the Director of Golf in managing the day to day operations of the Club’s golf department. The successful applicant will become an integral member of the management team and report directly to the Director of Golf.
The Role
This is an exciting role to take charge and further develop our golf shop and golf operations department through our continued period of growth. You will be responsible for and oversee the day-to-day operations of our golf shop and golf operations department, including the management of 6 staff in accordance with the Club’s strategic objectives. You will ensure a high level of member satisfaction is being always achieved in respect to our golf shop and golf operations.
You will continue to develop all aspects of the Club’s golf business with a focus on exceeding member and guest expectations and increasing visitor yield.
You will be responsible for the entire golf shop operations, retail and merchandising, sales and marketing, equipment hire services and asset management, member storage services, course yield maximisation, timesheet, competition and handicap management, range operations, rostering, staff training and development, and overall golf shop and golf services profitability.
This role reports directly to the Director of Golf.
You will assist and support the Director of Golf in coordinating, planning and delivering the Club’s small portfolio of corporate and charity golf days and large visitor groups.
You will assist the Director of Golf in developing golf shop and golf operational policies and procedures, ensuring they remain current and relevant, in addition to workplace, health and safety compliance.
There are opportunities to perform a small number of golf lessons per month, further increasing your remuneration.
What you will need
This full-time salaried position requires permanent weekend work. The successful applicant must be a current PGA Member and will preferably possess:
- A high level of business acumen, integrity and professionalism
- Appropriate qualifications in a business or golf club management discipline (e.g., Bachelor’s degree or PGA IGI), or proven equivalent practical experience in the absence of formal qualifications
- Management experience in a high service level and premier member golf club environment
- An understanding of core golf club operations and key golf-related business drivers
- Experience using MiClub golf timesheet and competition software
- Ability to understand and develop financial reports
- Neat, tidy and professional personal presentation
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to inspire and lead your own small team and to liaise and work alongside various department heads
- Experience developing policies, procedures, and training staff
- Equipment and asset management experience
- Event management experience
- To be available to work a very flexible roster including some weekend work
