Revitalised Seacliff Golf Course upgrades new clubhouse and improved facilities

POSTED ON June 25, 2024 @ 6:01 pm

Construction has officially started on a new clubhouse at the Seacliff Golf Course in the City of Marion, SOuth Australia, signaling the commencement of a multimillion-dollar redevelopment project designed to revitalise the local golfing facility. The renovation aims to replace a clubhouse that was demolished 20 years ago due to safety concerns.

Marion Mayor Kris Hanna participated in the ceremonial turning of the sod over the weekend, marking a significant milestone for the Seacliff Golf Course. “For nearly 20 years our local golfers have had to make do with a one-room ‘temporary’ clubhouse,” Mayor Hanna stated. “It’s time we gave them a brand new clubhouse for both members and visitors to enjoy.”

He further highlighted the inclusive nature of the club, stating, “Importantly, it’s not an elitist club – it’s a true community club, allowing people from all walks of life and varying degrees of golfing ability to enjoy the game.”

Located at 1 Clubhouse Rd, Seacliff Park, the Seacliff Golf Course, previously known as the Marion Golf Park, offers stunning views of Adelaide’s coastline. Despite its scenic location and a small 9-hole layout, the course has struggled to attract membership, primarily due to the lack of adequate facilities.

The key aspects of the redevelopment include not only a new clubhouse but also enhancements to the landscaping and the addition of a new car park. These facilities are set to be reconstructed in the same location as the previous clubhouse, affordably connecting the first tee, ninth green, the practice green, the driving range, and the car park.

In addition to the infrastructure developments, the council plans to improve the water supply to the golf course to ensure its sustainability. The entire redevelopment process is expected to take around 12 months to complete.

Currently, the Seacliff Golf Course sees about 15,000 rounds of golf played annually. With the upgraded facilities, the council hopes to increase participation significantly, projecting that the number of rounds could rise to 25,000 per year.

Simon Young, the president of Marion Park Golf Club, spoke about the commencement of the project. “The club is really excited about this project kicking off and what it will do for our members, but more importantly the wider community,” he said. According to Young, the upgraded facilities will enhance the club’s reputation and visibility. “It will really put us on the map,” he added.

The redevelopment of Seacliff Golf Course is poised to make it a more attractive destination for both current members and potential new golfers, ultimately benefiting the broader community and contributing to the local sports and recreation landscape.
