SEEKING: Course Superintendent – Mount Lawley Golf Club
Mount Lawley Golf Club, ideally located just 7 kilometres from the centre of Perth city, is one of Western Australia’s premier sporting clubs, boasting a championship golf course and outstanding member facilities. Since its formation in 1928, the Club and has hosted numerous State and National Amateur golf events and the Western Australian Open Championships in 2013.
The Club is undergoing an exciting period of development and has recently completed the installation of a new hard line irrigation system and upgraded its fleet of course maintenance machinery.
The Club offers a great opportunity for a dynamic and experienced person to take on the important role of Course Superintendent and be an integral part of our senior management team. The position reports directly to the General Manager and will work closely with the General Manager in all areas as required.
The ideal candidate is entrusted with the maintenance, operation and management of the golf course and surrounding property-wide grounds in accordance with the policies of the club and relevant state and federal legislation. A passion for golf and strong leadership skills to develop and encourage your team are essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Course Superintendent will set the annual works program for the day to day operations of the golf course, vegetation areas, and surrounding grounds offering ideas for improvements to conditioning or maintenance practices on a regular basis for discussion.
- Ensure that all staff under their supervision are performing all assigned tasks in accordance with their job description.
- Develop and propose both short and long term maintenance and development strategies that achieve the quality and cost objectives of the Club while ensuring the golf course and surrounds are presented to the standards as set out in the Club’s Course Maintenance Policy.
- Maintenance and management of the surrounding grounds includes the main practice putting green, driving range, three practice chipping greens and the 19th hole to acceptable and agreed standards all year round.
- Year round maintenance and management of the turf nursery to ensure there is adequate and quality turf established to be used around the golf course as required for planned projects and improvements of the course.
- Interviews, recommends for hire, trains and supervises a staff of employees within an agreed annual budget for the purpose of maintaining the property.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
- Certificate/Diploma in Turf Management, Irrigation or equivalent and/or extensive relative experience.
- Extensive experience in the planning and maintenance of a private or public golf course.
- Demonstrated knowledge of turf maintenance and the management of commercial irrigation systems.
- Proven organisational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage financial and physical resources, resolve problems, meet deadlines, organise activities and achieve results.
- Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with staff, industry stakeholders and relevant associations.
- Demonstrated commitment to high quality and timely service delivery, in accordance with identified member or stakeholder needs.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of contemporary land management issues as they relate to golf courses.
- A high degree of administrative and executive ability.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, site visits (including other golf courses) and trade shows.
