The Sands Torquay Resort and Golf Course Listed for Sale

POSTED ON April 24, 2024 @ 11:41 am

The Sands Torquay, a recently refurbished, four-star resort and golf course, has been listed for sale on behalf of the Receivers and Managers. The sale will include all Freehold land and buildings along with the business with Vacant Possession.

It sold for a discount price of $12.8 million in 2021.

Located in the seaside town of Torquay, the resort is situated on a 76.5ha site and comprises of 112 suites, a restaurant, conference facilities, an award-winning 18-hole Stuart Appleby-designed golf course and a 20-bay driving range, as well as a health club which includes an indoor 25m swimming pool and tennis courts.

The resort was built in 2007 and designed by award-winning architect, Perrott Lyon Matheson. The resort recently underwent significant refurbishment which uplifted it to a 4.5-star standard.

The golf course won the Pro-Am of the Year in 2022 by the Australian PGA and has a strong membership base, along with holding regular golfing tournaments and being a popular destination for corporate golf events. Originally developed by Handbury Group, the golf course is one of the most prominent privately owned golf courses in Australia.

CBRE’s Scott Callow is managing the sale via an Expression of Interest campaign closing 29 May 2024.

“The resort is strategically located to benefit from tourists coming from Melbourne and the local support for the golf club in Torquay. The vacant possession offering means the new owner will have the freedom to operate the resort themselves or install their own management company while enjoying steady income from the golf and health club, resort amenities, food and beverage services and the swim school,” Mr Callow said.

“Additionally, there is potential for further residential development at various locations around the golf course, subject to council approval. This opportunity in a prime surf coast location, just 90 minutes from Melbourne, is highly sought after.”
